✈️ About the Airport and its Terminals

🌃 Is the airport open 24 hours?

Yes, the terminals are open 24/7, but services are not. For the first flights of the day, some security checkpoints open around 4:00 am, and most restaurants and shops close between 8:00 and 10:00 pm, so there are few options for night flights.

🔄 Which airlines changed terminals in 2026?

Spirit Airlines ceased operations on May 2, 2026. Avianca moved from Terminal 1 to Terminal 4 on June 29, 2026, and Air Canada from Terminal 2 to Terminal 4 on September 15, 2026. Check your terminal on the airlines page before leaving.

⚖️ Are all terminals the same?

No. Terminal 1 is the most modern, with high ceilings, large windows and plenty of seating, and Terminal 2 is clean and pleasant. Terminals 3 and 4 are described as older, with low ceilings, narrow corridors and more crowded gate areas.

↔️ How can I move between terminals?

All four terminals can be reached on foot through the walkways and garages: from Terminal 1 to Terminal 4 takes about 15 to 20 minutes. After security, only Terminals 3 and 4 are connected; moving between Terminal 1, Terminal 2 and the 3-4 block means leaving the secure area and going through security again.

⏳ What can I do during a long layover?

There are restaurants, shops, free Wi-Fi and nursing rooms, and luggage storage in Terminals 1, 2 and 3 if you want to go out. If your layover is very long, there are several hotels a few minutes away, such as the Le Méridien Dania Beach or the Comfort Suites Fort Lauderdale Airport. SEARCH AND BOOK HOTELS.

🛋️ Are there VIP lounges at the airport?

Yes, three: the United Club (Terminal 1), the Delta Sky Club (Terminal 2) and the Escape Lounge (Terminal 3, also reachable from Terminal 4). None accepts Priority Pass. The Escape Lounge sells entry for USD 45 online with 24 hours' notice, and all three only admit you within 3 hours of your flight. See the lounges guide.

🚗 Transportation and Parking

📍 Where is the pickup spot for Uber and Lyft?

It depends on the terminal: in Terminal 1, in Zone Z past the taxi stand; in Terminal 2, near GTA-2; in Terminals 3 and 4, on the first floor of the Palm garage. Some frequent travelers coordinate with their driver to be picked up on the upper level (Departures) when arrivals is jammed. See the taxis and apps guide.

🚢 How do I get to the cruise port?

Port Everglades is less than 10 minutes away. A taxi costs about USD 18–21, and Uber or Lyft are usually cheaper. See the taxis and apps guide.

🆓 Is there any free parking area at FLL?

Yes, the Cell Phone Waiting Area lets you wait in your car for free until the passenger is ready at the curb. It fills up quickly, and the mobile data signal of some carriers is very weak there.

🚆 How do I get to Miami by public transport?

The most economical option is the Tri-Rail train: a free shuttle takes you from the terminals to the FLL station in Dania Beach, and from there the train goes to several stations in Miami, including Miami Airport. See the public transportation guide.

🚄 Can I take Brightline from the airport?

Brightline has no station at the airport, but a shuttle runs from the terminals (GTA-1, GTA-2 and GTA-3) to its Fort Lauderdale station every day from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm, with a flat fare per person.

↔️ Is there public transport between FLL and Miami Airport (MIA)?

Yes. Tri-Rail connects the FLL station with the Miami Airport station, and bus companies such as RedCoach and Flixbus also run between both airports, with variable reliability. A taxi costs about USD 72.

🚗 Is it advisable to rent a car at FLL?

It gives you flexibility, but choose the company carefully. Alamo, Enterprise, National, Avis and Sixt get the best reviews for speed, while Thrifty, Dollar, Fox and Budget accumulate reports of waits of more than an hour and pressure to buy extras. See the car rental guide.

🚕 What private transport options are there?

Besides taxis and apps, you can book a private transfer in advance: a fixed price and a driver waiting for you on arrival.

ℹ️ Services and Security

📶 Is there free internet access?

Yes, Wi-Fi is free and unlimited in all terminals and at the rental car center, and it is one of the best-rated services at the airport.

🛂 Are the waits at security (TSA) long?

Usually not: many travelers report 5 to 10 minutes, and CLEAR and TSA PreCheck are available in every terminal. The exceptions are peak times with cruise passengers and the first flights of the day. Even so, arrive with time to spare.

🛅 What do I do if I lose something at the airport?

If you lost it on the plane, contact your airline. If it was in the terminal, go to the Lost and Found office, on level 2 of the rental car center, across from Enterprise. Call +1 954 359 2247 (extension 3) or, preferably, fill out the online form. Items are kept for 30 days and can be picked up 24/7.

🧳 Is there a luggage storage service?

Yes, in Terminals 1, 2 and 3, from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm on weekdays and until 6:30 pm on weekends. The Terminal 4 location is temporarily closed.

📱 Is it possible to get a SIM card?

Yes, the InMotion stores sell SIM cards for travelers, in Terminal 3 (Concourse F) and Terminal 4 (Concourse G West). You can also buy an eSIM before your trip.

💵 Where are ATMs and currency exchange?

There are ATMs in all terminals and at the rental car center. The currency exchange is on the lower level of Terminal 4, before security, open Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 8:00 pm and weekends from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

🩺 Does the airport have medical services?

There are defibrillators (AEDs) in all terminals for cardiac emergencies. In a medical emergency, ask any airport employee for help or call 911.

🍽️ Are there 24-hour food options?

Only one: The Market on Las Olas, in Terminal 3. Most restaurants close between 8:00 and 10:00 pm. See the dining guide.
